Welcome 2012 and New Beginnings!!

2011 was one of those years that you just dont know how to describe. In most aspects, it was a one good, in some it was great, and in others it was the worst I have ever experienced. On December 7th, my dad became gravely ill and to this date is still in the hospital. Thanks to the good Lord though he is mending and hopefully will soon be home as good as new. This Christmas was spent realizing the real meaning of Christmas, not only the birth of our wonderful Saviour, but the true love of family, friends and co-workers, and the power of prayer. We, by all medical reasons should be mourning, but God decided it was not his time to go, and I will thank Him everyday for that decision. Christmas was quiet and sweet, not commercialized. We had a great family meal provided by wonderful friends, then opened gifts and went to the hospital and spent time with Daddy. I learned a lot this Christmas season, family means the most!

The pics above are some of the items I made this year that were my favorites. The glaze is one of the new combinations I discovered on my own. I made a trip to the Coast earlier in the year and bought a variety of different glazes. I then came home and started combining them and playing. I have several favorites, but I only have pics of this one now. I did a lot of the initial plates, and also some initial cheese ball plates. The letters are about 4 inches in size, and they were my most popular item I made. People used them for teachers gifts, some were used as little happies and were attatched to gifts as decorations, but mostly people used them for family gifts. I had a great year with all my pottery. I have put it in a store here in my home town and it did really well there. I plan on doing several spring craft shows. I hope ya'll will come see me if I am in your area. I will be posting a list soon of the ones I am going to do.

This has been a very random post, but I promise to be better and update on a regular basis. I am starting an Etsy shoppe soon, and will have a side bar icon that will direct you to it. Ya'll be safe, happy, healthy. Be kind to all. Smile and laugh! Please pray daily for our troops, those that are sick and struggling with issues, and for yourself and your family. Tell God your concerns and needs, and He will choose the right path that you should take and lead you in that direction. Hug those you love and tell them you love them. God bless ya'll!!!!

Fishy, Fishy!

I love animals, live or in pottery! This little fishy is new to my pottery collection. He is glazed in some of the new glazes I got when we went to Gulfport. I just love him!!! He is about 9 x 12 inches with a slight 1 inch depth in the platter. I already have orders for some more in different color combos. He may be sold, but I think I will make another and possibly add him to my personal pottery. Lots of orders coming in for Christmas now. WOW, this is so much fun!

Hope ya'll have enjoyed this beautiful weather we have been having. We have our last footbal game for Jr. High tomorrow. I really think I am going to miss these Thursday night games. Tomorrow will be a little hectic since we travel out of town, but I hope to be back in the morning with some more new stuff! Take care, be safe, do something nice for someone! God bless ya'll!!!

FALL!!!

This is not a great picture, seeing that I took it in my car on the way to deliver it, but I absolutely love this piece and I did not want it to get away without being archived. This background is Brown with Cream breaking through randomly, and the cross and edging are done with a Blue hue. I have been back to making on a regular basis. The studio is up and going and life is great. I finally decided to let my pieces go to a store and I have been really pleased with the results. I went down to the coast several weekends ago and bought some new glazes to try. I am very pleased with some, ok with some, and cannot stand some, but it is a learning thing for me. All their samples were done on white clay which I very seldom use, so I have had to experiment on my clay. My family likes all the glazes I cannot stand, which means the trip was not a waste. I will use those glazes up on them.

Life is still hectic. I have made several trips lately though that have been great. I went with the youngest sons' Boy Scout troop to Chattanooga over the Labor Day holiday. Lots and lots of fun--camping, cave exploring and then a sleep over in the cave (NOPE not me, I was in the Holiday Inn Express down the road), canoeing down the Hiwasee (loved this), white water rafting down the Ocoee (loved this), tower climbing (yep I did it, but got off at the first level), and great campfires and lots of memories made. I talked earlier about the trip to the coast. I made this one with daughter, grandbaby, and my best friend and pottery companion. My aunt lives in Gulfport and that is where the pottery supply place is, so we made a weekend out of it. Good food, wonderful family time, and my aunt showed us lots of fun shops to visit. That trip will be made again soon. Oldest son doing fine. Got all his crop out and did good this year. Need to take a trip with him, but it would have to be to the woods somewhere to hunt, and I don't think I am going to be doing that anytime soon. I will just wait for his visits to eat or those neat phone calls I get from him sometimes that he just talks none stop while looking over the crops or just chillin. Still working with the doc 4 days a week, so you seen why this blog has not been updated much as I promised. SORRY!!!! One last thing to say before I leave you today--Angel Baby turns TWO tomorrow!!!! On my way to get her just one more thing--Ha Ha!! we will see if it is just one. I have been buying for months for this day.

Ya'll take care and be blessed. Life is a wonderful gift we have been given. Enjoy every moment and live it to the fullest. See ya soon!!!

Long time, no see!!

Well, hello again!! I cannot believe it has been a year since I last posted. I have to say, I just took a little hiatis (spelling???). Last year I had been working so hard to get things together before we left on vacation, when the kiln messed up and all my pieces were horrible. I litterly walked away for 8 months. I did not pick up a piece of clay, make anything, fire anything, NOTHING! I took a quilt class--Ha! Ha!--a drastic change wouldn't you say. I finally went back in April and I am back at it. This is a tray I did for a friend. I love the length of it. She is using it for candles, but it would make a great serving piece for sandwiches, crackers, or just about anything. I am also doing her one the same width, but about 2/3's the length. Should make a great pair!

I really have a lot to show you, so I will be back on a regular basis, maybe not daily, but at least 3 times a week. Ya'll take care. Hug those you love. Smile and laugh out loud. Be safe, healthy, and happy. God bless ya'll!!

Square Bowls

Lasts weekends trip to the lake was great! Such relaxation, fun and peace and quiet. The fish were biting, and we did pretty good. My dad and I went in one boat and hubby and youngest son were in another. Race to see who catches the most???? You bet. When the day was done, they claimed to have beat us by one (that they threw back, yeah really!!) Actually it was a tie, thanks to little buddie and I fishing off the bank after the boats came in. I spent most of Thursday at the pottery studio. Not a good day!! I broke two pieces that I thought were going to be my favorite. Oh well, I just started on some more just like them. The pieces above are a great wedding present. They fit perfectly inside each other, or you can use them as two pieces. I love the contour of the edges (I really have this thing about the edges of my pottery) and it gives each piece a little character. Ya'll have a great weekend. God bless ya'll!!!

New Cross

Well, we are back from a wonderful weekend at the lake. Lots of great family time and fun, great fishing, and peaceful rest. It is much different in the country than in town--temperature, noise, everything. The crosses above are a new design I have started. I used an iron cross and pressed it in the clay, then cut around the image. I used Waterfall Brown on one, and on the other I used Antique Iron-Caramel to dip it in, then I sponged Waterfall Brown, and ended with pouring strips of Blood Red across the middle. Hope you enjoy!! God bless ya'll!!

Oblong Bowl

I used a mold for this piece, well sort of. I used the bowl part for the mold and then I played with the edges by curving them to what I like, there comes that rough edges part of me! I love the shape and it is the perfect size for a serving piece. The main glaze is Antique Iron-Caramel, sponged on the edges with Waterfall Brown, and then Emerald Green is poured through the middle to make a stripe. I keep going back to this pattern of glazes and I believe it will be one of my primary ones. I did do several new things this week and they will follow in future posts. My little one (11 y/o son) and I are going to the lake today for a fishing trip with my dad. Hubby was planning to go also, but he hurt his back this week (a recurrent injury that nags) so his plans are iffy right now. We are leaving in about an hour and will be back late tomorrow. I plan on resting and enoying the sounds of nature for the next 36 hours. I will post some pics next week. It is so tranquil. My dad has a trailor that sits on the edge of a lake, it is gorgeous out there. He and my mom set this up about 25 years ago for a weekend get away. Thank you, Mom (blessings sent to Heaven) and Dad!!! Ya'll have a blessed weekend. Enjoy your family and friends. Please pray that this oil spill will end soon. Take care and God bless ya'll!!
